Unimed Vale do Caí Deploying Mobile-Enabled Clinical Decision Support
September 2, 2014 – Wolters Kluwer Health, a leading global provider of information for healthcare professionals and students, announced today the Latin American launch of UpToDate® Anywhere and its deployment by Unimed Vale do Caí. UpToDate Anywhere enables hospitals and healthcare organizations to provide clinicians with mobile access to UpToDate, the acclaimed evidence-based clinical decision support resource.
Located in Montenegro, Rio Grande do Sul in Brazil, Unimed Vale do Caí (UVC) is a 110-bed private hospital with more than 150 clinicians and 560 specialized medical professionals who rely on UpToDate for trusted and current clinical answers. UVC maintains its level of excellence by providing clinicians with access to the best in technology and latest equipment.
“UpToDate has been widely adopted throughout Unimed Vale do Caí. In a short time, I'm seeing UpToDate used in a variety of departments — from intensive care to cardiology for example,” said Dr. Everton Bochi, Cardiologist and Director at UVC. “By using an iPhone or Android device, mobile access to UpToDate is quick and easy at the patient bedside, in the office or at home. The mobile experience has also introduced UpToDate to many of our doctors for the first time while advancing our overall mobile health technology strategy,” Dr. Bochi added
UpToDate Anywhere users at UVC and other Latin American healthcare organizations benefit in particular from Search in Your Own Language, a customizable suite of local-language search and navigation tools that enables clinicians to research clinical questions in Spanish or Portuguese. By leveraging an advanced, patent-pending translation system for search terms in nine languages, the intuitive auto-complete feature of UpToDate search predicts words or phrases in a clinician’s native language to deliver faster results.
With the Latin American launch of UpToDate Anywhere comes the introduction of more than 1,000 Spanish-language patient education topics that doctors can email, print or review with their patients. Easy-to-understand, accurate and comprehensive information and images give doctors the tools to educate patients on their condition so they can make informed choices about their healthcare.
“Our mission is to improve the quality and effectiveness of healthcare worldwide by ensuring clinicians can find the best answers to their clinical questions, whether they are seeing a patient, in between appointments, or at the office,” said Denise Basow, MD, Vice President and General Manager, UpToDate at Wolters Kluwer Health, Clinical Solutions. “We applaud Unimed Vale do Caí’s commitment to advancing this mission with UpToDate Anywhere by providing clinicians with rapid access to trusted clinical decision support on their mobile devices.”
