Indonesia’s Bali Royal Hospital Selects UpToDate as its Evidence-Based Clinical Decision Support System of Choice

Waltham, Mass. – Feb. 14, 2013 – Wolters Kluwer Health, a leading global provider of information for healthcare professionals and students, announced today that Bali Royal Hospital has selected UpToDate® as its evidence-based clinical decision support system resource. The hospital represents the first UpToDate client in Indonesia.

Bali Royal Hospital opened its doors in 2010 to provide comprehensive medical services to local patients and tourists in the city of Bali and across East Indonesia. The facility selected UpToDate to increase physician adoption of the latest industry best practices across its four centers of excellence— in vitro fertilization, endoscopy, neuroscience and cosmetic surgery— as well as homecare and general medical practice.

“We recognize the challenges of keeping up with the rapid pace of medical discovery and technological advancement and want to ensure that our clinicians have access to the latest industry evidence at the point of care,” said Ida Ayu Oka Purnama Wati, Vice Director, Bali Royal Hospital. “Since deploying UpToDate, our clinicians have developed a deeper knowledge of clinical best practices and have greater confidence that they are providing patients with the best care possible.”

UpToDate’s clinical guidance is already influencing care decisions at Bali Royal. One recent example is that of a European tourist diagnosed with Cerebral Salt Wasting Syndrome (CSWS), a rare endocrine condition characterized by low blood sodium and severe dehydration. Treatment of CSWS is complex
and clinical management is intensive.

“Following the clinical recommendation from UpToDate, the patient was successfully treated with fludrocortisone and has since returned home,” said Agus Suardika, M.D., Head of International Service, Bali Royal Hospital. “The confidence our clinicians have in UpToDate is such that they were comfortable adopting a new treatment plan for CSWS that ultimately resulted in a successful outcome.”

“We are pleased to work with Bali Royal Hospital as our newest client in Southeast Asia,” said Denise Basow, M.D., Vice President/General Manager and Editor-in-Chief, UpToDate at Wolters Kluwer Health, Clinical Solutions. “Research studies continue to confirm the effectiveness of UpToDate as a resource for elevating care delivery, and clinicians worldwide trust our content to deliver the best advice at the point of care.”
