Through the Export to PowerPoint tool, you can quickly and easily
export graphic images to Microsoft PowerPoint (or to other software
capable of opening Microsoft PowerPoint files) for use as slides in
presentations.
The requirements for using the Export to PowerPoint tool are as
follows:
Your subscription type must permit the use of the tool. The
tool will be displayed only if it is permitted for your subscription
type.
You must be using UpToDate online from a desktop or laptop
computer.
Software that is capable of opening Microsoft PowerPoint
(.ppt) files must be installed on the computer that you are using.
To export a graphic from UpToDate using the Export to PowerPoint
tool:
Click the link for the graphic in an UpToDate topic to open
the graphic in a separate window.
Click the Export to PowerPoint tool in the
graphic window.
In the dialog box that appears, click Open to
open the graphic in PowerPoint (or your PowerPoint-compatible
software), or click Save to save the graphic as a .ppt
file.
Note: If the graphic consists of multiple
images, the Export to PowerPoint tool creates a separate slide for each
image.
UpToDate desktop computer installations — In the upper
right corner of the program window there are two buttons for zooming in
and out. Clicking on these will enlarge or decrease the text size,
respectively. Alternatively, go to the View menu,
select Zoom, and choose one of the displayed options
for the same effect.
UpToDate online — Use your browser's facility
for setting the text size on the page.
What does the "E-mail" function in UpToDate
online do?
This feature allows you to send an UpToDate topic by
e-mail, along with a 30-day guest pass (one per recipient). Click
here for a description of how to e-mail topics.
We welcome links to our website, including links to our home
page, patient information topics, and professional-level previews. See
our linking policy.
UpToDate provides hundreds of patient education topics that
clinicians can share with patients or that patients can access on their own
through our website at www.uptodate.com/patients.
These topics offer an in-depth discussion of the risk factors,
causes, diagnostic processes, preventive measures, complications, and
recommended treatments for many of the most common conditions. Like our
clinician-level topics, UpToDate's patient information topics are
updated every four months; thus, our patient information is some of the
most accurate and evidence-based available.
Our patient information is written for an educated audience, and
may not be appropriate for all reading levels. See the "Where to get
more information" section of each patient-level topic for other websites
that may be appropriate for patients at different reading levels.
Accessing UpToDate patient
information
Clinicians can access patient information topics as follows:
Click Patient Info on the toolbar, then click
on the medical category of interest.
Through the search facility (for example, search on "patient
info asthma"). In UpToDate online, you can use the Prioritize
patient topics option to display patient topics first in the search
results.
Click Patient in the topic tools area at
upper-right in a topic to go directly to the Information for Patients
section, where you will find links to any related patient information
topics.
Note: The Patient tool is
available only in professional-level topics for which there is related
patient information.
Our patient information topics are also available free to the
public at www.uptodate.com/patients.
Patients can search for information using the search facility. Relevant
patient information topics (where available) will be listed at the top
of the search results list. Patients can also click on "view
patient-level table of contents" directly below the Search box to view
all of our patient information topics by medical category. All topics
can be printed or e-mailed.
How do I find the "What's New" summary in UpToDate?
Our physician editors have made it easy for you to stay current
through the What's New feature. This feature provides you with a summary
of the most important updates that have been added since the last
release. These updates represent, in our editors' view, the most
important new information added during the previous four months. They
include Practice Changing Updates, a compilation of studies with
important or immediate implications for how clinicians practice. You can
view this information by clicking What's
New on the toolbar.
Cite the UpToDate topic as a chapter in a book titled UpToDate,
edited by Denise S. Basow, published by UpToDate in Waltham, MA. There
are no page numbers to cite. Since UpToDate is released every
four months, each topic will appear (i.e., be published) in each release
we issue, so the publication year for any topic should be the current
year.
