Why do I see a blank page when I try to access a topic?
Please note that on some computers it may take a minute for
UpToDate online to load when starting the first session. If after this
time a blank page is still present, emptying the browser's cache will
usually solve the problem. Instructions on how to empty the browser's
cache are found below.
If using Internet Explorer 6:
From the Tools menu, select Internet
Options to display the Internet Options dialog box
Make sure the General tab is selected
Click the Delete Files button, select the Delete
all offline content option, and then click OK
Click the Delete Cookies button, then click OK
Click the Clear History button, then click Yes
Click OK to close the Internet Options dialog
box
If using Internet Explorer 7:
From the Tools menu select Internet
Options
Make sure the General tab is selected
Click on Delete Browsing History
Choose to delete cookies, history, and temporary
files
If using Internet Explorer 8:
From the Tools menu select Internet
Options
Make sure the General tab is selected
Click on Delete...
Put a check mark in the following (remove the check mark from Preserve Favorites Website data)
Temporary Internet files
Cookies
History
Click on Delete
Click on OK from the Internet Options window
Close out of Internet Explorer
Reopen Internet Explorer and go to www.uptodate.com
If using Mozilla Firefox 4:
Click onTools
Click on Clear Recent History
Change the time range to "Everything"
Select the following:
Browsing and Download History
Cookies
Cache
Click on Clear Now
Close out of Firefox
Reopen Firefox and go to www.uptodate.com
If using Google Chrome:
Click on tools from the upper right corner (icon looks like a wrench)
On the left panel, select "Under the hood"
Click on the option to "Clear Browsing Data"
Choose to delete the following and verify that "the beginning of time" is selected
Clear browsing history
Empty the cache
Delete cookies and other site data
Click "Clear browsing data"
Close out of Google Chrome
Reopen Google Chrome and go to www.uptodate.com
If using Opera:
Click on Menu
Select Settings
Click Delete private data
Click the Detailed Options arrow
Check the following
Delete all cookies
Delete entire cache
Clear history of visited websites
Click Delete
Close out of Opera
Reopen Opera and go to www.uptodate.com
If using Safari (Windows)
To clear the cache in Safari when using a Windows computer,
please follow the steps below:
Open Safari
From the Edit menu, choose Reset Safari
Select Clear history, Empty
the cache, and Remove all cookies
Click Reset
Close Safari
Reopen Safari and log in to www.uptodate.com
If using Safari (Macintosh)
To clear the cache in Safari when using a Macintosh computer,
please follow the steps below:
Open Safari
Click Safari next to the Apple symbol at
upper left
Click Reset Safari
Select Clear history, Empty
the cache, and Remove all cookies
Why did I receive the error message "Cookies must be enabled to
view this page"?
To use UpToDate online, cookies must be enabled in the browser.
Cookies make it more convenient for individuals to navigate a
website by allowing them to visit pages within a site without having to
reintroduce themselves with each mouse click. Cookies do not have the
capability of infiltrating a user's hard drive and accessing personal
information. The simple function of a cookie is to help the individual
navigate a website with as little obstruction as possible.
Cookies are small data structures used by a website (server) to:
Deliver data to a web client (user)
Request that the client store the information
In certain circumstances, return the information to the
website
To Enable Cookies:
Internet Explorer:
From the Tools menu, choose Internet
Options
In the Internet Options dialog box, select the Privacy
tab
Click the Sites button
In the Address of Web site box, type uptodate.com
Click the Allow button
Click OK to close the Internet Options dialog
box
Close and reopen IE, then go to www.uptodate.com
Mozilla Firefox:
From the Tools menu, choose Options
Select the Privacy tab
In the History section, select Use custom
settings for history in the "Firefox will" box
Click Exceptions
In the Address of web site box, type uptodate.com
Click Allow
Close Firefox
Reopen Firefox and go to www.uptodate.com
Opera:
From the Tools menu, choose Settings and click Preferences
Select the Advanced tab
In the menu on the left, select Cookies
Select the Accept cookies option
Click OK

Google Chrome:
Click on Tools (wrench icon)
Click on options
Select "Under the hood" from the left panel
Click on "Manage exceptions..."
Enter 'www.uptodate.com' and press enter
Close the tab and go to www.uptodate.com
Safari:
Open Safari
Do one of the following, as appropriate:

Click on the Security tab
In the Accept cookies section, select Only from
sites you navigate to
Close the window
Close Safari
Reopen Safari, clear the address box, and enter
www.uptodate.com (do not use any bookmarks, shortcuts, or favorites)
