How is UpToDate different from other resources I use?

UpToDate is unlike any other clinical resource:

  • More comprehensive than any other individual resource, UpToDate contains the equivalent of over 80,000 pages of original, peer-reviewed text.
  • Its unique format and search capability allow you to access answers to clinical questions quickly and easily. You get the answer you need when you need it.
  • It is continually updated by a staff of physician editors in conjunction with over 4,000 authors, section editors, and peer reviewers so that the entire content is always current. We publish new content every four months.
  • Our expert faculty synthesizes and summarizes the latest evidence and provides specific, practical recommendations for diagnosis and treatment.
  • It combines broad coverage of adult primary care, subspecialty internal medicine, ob/gyn, and pediatrics.

We update our content and publish a new release every four months. This content is available online, and can also be installed on a desktop or laptop computer and on some mobile devices. Each software release completely replaces the previous releases. After sending you the final software release for your subscription period, we will contact you to renew your subscription. You may also renew online at www.uptodate.com/renew.

How does UpToDate stay current?

UpToDate performs a continuous comprehensive review of over 440 journals to keep the program updated. All topics in UpToDate are revised whenever important new information is published, not according to any specific time schedule. Updates are integrated carefully, with specific statements as to how the new findings should be applied clinically. Each topic has a date indicating when the topic was last reviewed and/or modified. On average, approximately 40 percent of the topics are updated during each four-month cycle. A subset of those updates can be viewed by clicking What's New on the toolbar and then selecting your specialty or area of interest. These updates represent, in our editors' view, the most important new information added during the previous four months. They include Practice Changing Updates, a compilation of studies with important or immediate implications for how clinicians practice.
