name and password:
On the UpToDate home page, click Current
Subscribers Log In or click the Log In link in the
upper right corner.

user name and a new password. You can log in to UpToDate online
using these. We recommend that you immediately change the new password
to one of your own choosing, which you can do through My Account after
you have logged in.
You can also contact Customer

Can I access UpToDate from my
iPhone or BlackBerry?
You can log in to UpToDate online using the Safari browser on
your iPhone or the browser on your BlackBerry by going to the login page
at http://mobile.uptodate.com. In addition, you can earn CME/CE credit
through your use of UpToDate on your iPhone or BlackBerry. An installed
version is not currently available for these devices.
Can I access UpToDate online on my mobile device through my
institution's site license?
If your institution has an UpToDate site license, you can access
UpToDate online through a WIFI connection to the institution's system.
Contact your institution's system administrator for instructions.
You can install UpToDate on various mobile devices, and you
may be able to access UpToDate online through your mobile device. See our system requirements
for information about supported devices and the requirements for using UpToDate
with them.
Are a memory card and card reader necessary for installing
UpToDate on my mobile device?
Yes, an SD memory card and a memory card reader are required for
installing UpToDate on a mobile device (this is true for all mobile
devices, including those that have internal storage). While it may be
possible to install other software directly through the mobile device
cradle, UpToDate is too large and complex for this to be possible.
Instead, a memory card reader is used to install information onto the
memory card.
How do I install UpToDate on my computer or mobile
device?
You can access UpToDate online from your computer or mobile
device without having to install any software. To do so, simply go to
www.uptodate.com (desktop or laptop computers) or
http://mobile.uptodate.com (mobile devices) and log in using the user name
and password supplied by UpToDate. If you do not have Internet access
from your computer or mobile device, or if you want to run UpToDate from a
local installation for any other reason, then you can install the
UpToDate software.
This topic describes how to install UpToDate software on a
desktop or laptop computer or a mobile device, and also describes how to
activate the software.
Note: For installation and activation on
institutional computers, administrator privileges must be available.
To perform both a desktop or laptop computer installation and a
mobile device installation, remove and reinsert the UpToDate DVD after
the first installation has completed, then choose the other installation
type.
To install UpToDate on your Windows or Macintosh desktop or
laptop computer:
Close any open programs on your computer, including virus
protection software.
Insert the UpToDate DVD into your computer's DVD drive.
Windows only: If setup does not begin
automatically, right-click on My Computer (Windows XP)
or Computer (Windows Vista or Windows 7) from the
Start menu, then click Open. Next, right-click on the
UpToDate DVD icon, select Open, and
double-click on the setup icon.
Windows: On the Choose Installation Type
screen, select Desktop computer installation and click
Next.
Macintosh: Double-click the UpToDate
DVD icon on your desktop, then double-click the Macintosh_Setup
icon.
Follow the onscreen instructions.
You will be prompted to enter your name and Product ID during
installation. The Product ID is included with your software package.
You will also be asked where you want to install UpToDate. If
the default installation folder is not where you want to install
UpToDate, do one of the following:
Windows — Click the Browse button to
select a different location, then click Next.
Macintosh — Click the Change Install
Location button, then click the desired destination drive and click Open.
Windows users who do not have QuickTime installed will be asked
to install it during the installation. The QuickTime software is
optional, so you can choose not to install it, if you prefer. Note that
QuickTime is required for viewing movies.
When the installation is complete, you can run UpToDate as
follows:
Windows — From the shortcut icon for UpToDate on your
desktop or in the Start menu (under Programs).
Macintosh — From the alias for UpToDate on your desktop.
The activation process for desktop and laptop computer
software installations is different from the process for mobile device
software installations, as described below.
Desktop and laptop computer installations
You will be prompted to activate when you run your UpToDate
software after installing the first release of a new subscription
period. You must activate before you can use your software.
Mobile device installations
As part of the installation process, you must activate your
UpToDate mobile device software when you install the first release of a new
subscription period. The installation program will inform you that you
need to activate and lead you through the steps for doing so.
If you activate online, activation is immediate. Activation by
phone typically requires 5-10 minutes. If you use any other method, it
will take two business days for us to process your request. If you
choose to activate by mail, please allow for mail delivery time: about
1-2 weeks for domestic mail and about 3-4 weeks for international mail.
Unfortunately, we have become aware of a significant level of
unauthorized duplication and use of our software. Clearly this is unfair
to all physicians associated with UpToDate: our paying subscribers, our
physician editors and contributors, and our partnering medical
societies. We have put activation in place to help prevent software
piracy.
