The following procedure describes how to make slides from UpToDate
on a Windows-based computer:
Open a graphic image (such as a picture, table, graph, or
histology) by clicking its link in a topic. UpToDate displays
the image, as shown in the example below.
Make a screen capture of the image by pressing the Alt
and Print Screen keys simultaneously.
Open the Microsoft Paint program as follows: Choose Programs
(Windows 2000 or XP) or All Programs (Windows Vista)
from the Start menu, choose Accessories, then choose Paint.
Paste the screen capture into Paint by choosing Paste
from the Edit menu.
Select the part of the image that you want to use as follows:
Click the Select button (), then click and drag on the image to enclose the
desired area inside the dashed lines, as shown in the following
example.
From the Edit menu, choose Copy.
From the File menu, choose New, then click No
in response to the prompt that asks if you want to save changes. This
clears the current content.
From the Edit menu, choose Paste to display
the final version of the edited image.
Save the edited image as follows: Choose Save
As from the File menu, specify the location in which you want to save
the image file, and click Save.
Open your presentation program (Microsoft PowerPoint is the
program used in these instructions).
Note: Some presentation programs provide slide
templates that allow space for inserting pictures and clip art. We
recommend that you use these templates.
From the Insert menu, choose Picture, then
choose From File.
In the Insert Picture dialog box, locate the image file that
you saved, click on the image file, and click the Insert
button.
The inserted image appears on your slide. You can then drag the
boxes in the corner of the picture to resize the image, if necessary. We
recommend that you keep the original size of the image in your
presentation, as increasing or decreasing the size may result in a loss
of image quality.
