In conclusion, nephrotoxicity is a common and potentially clinically significant problem with cyclosporine and FK506 following transplantation. Further definition of its pathogenesis and improved dosing strategies for both of these drugs may reduce the impact of nephrotoxicity on both short-term and long-term outcomes.
